In Times of Crisis we can learn a lot from a Child

This past Friday I was watching the CBS Evening News and they aired a segment that focused on the experience of Hurricane Sandy through the eyes of the children. There were three or four children that gave their perspective, which included the personal effects on them.
The adult perspective focuses on the monetary damages pertaining to property, food, lack of resources. This is to be expected, rightly so as the people work very hard to secure property rights, build reserves for such an emergency, yet there are some of us who have not saved for such life altering devastation, or minor displacement for that matter, making this past week especially painful.
The children, on the other hand, worry about their cat they had to leave behind, or lack of access to TV or video. Through the troubles they are able to refocus much quicker and turn to what they know i.e. rediscovering the outdoors. When asked about their situation and moving forward, they had a keen understanding of others in situations worse off.
We all feel for those that have been affected by this natural disaster, but there were a lot of us that were affected nominally. This being the case, yes it is disruption, and may not even be tolerable at times. This is the time we should be close to our children and adopt their perspective. Gain strength through our loved ones, and the silver lining they project. As we go through trying times we should remember how short life is and that our tempers and grudges should be proportionate.
Attached below is one of my favorite videos which should remind us of how we should keep things in perspective.
God Bless all the Victims of Hurricane Sandy and God Bless the USA!
