September 11, 2012
Today is a day we remember the victims and heroes of the assault on America, September 11, 2001. In this election season, I pray that there is where the emphasis lies on this day. Some of our political “leaders” have been opportunists of late, and politicizing this would be discouraging to our already skeptical view of our politicians of late.
Our politicians have been serving themselves lately, not only by continuing to divide the country, but misrepresenting the relationship between the people and its government. Our representative republic is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our “leaders” need to remember this.
The best way for our politicians to show empathy and understanding to us would be to recognize that our Republic does not need fixing today, or at any time for that matter. They should show us that they understand their role as “servant leaders” to the people. Knowing we are all of diverse backgrounds and mourn in different ways, allowing clergy, no matter what religion opportunity to console their flock. Tolerance today should come from and be for religions as well as agnostics.
At times like these Americans band together as brother and sister, making me confident that the American Idea is alive in well in its citizens. I know this to be true because everybody I know, whether at work or at home provide some sort of service that is wanted, needed, or desired by someone.
A special thanks today to those who sacrificed their lives for those who were also serving others in their own way that solemn Tuesday morning. There will always be a special place in our hearts for all of you.
